A Chasen is one of the most essential tools in preparing delicious matcha.

Used in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies for over 500 years, the Chasen is a handcrafted bamboo whisk designed to create a smooth, creamy, and beautifully aerated bowl of matcha.

At MatchaKai, we work closely with artisans in the Nara region of Japan — the birthplace of the traditional Chasen — to source authentic handcrafted whisks made with exceptional care and craftsmanship.

Each Chasen is carefully carved from bamboo that has been naturally stored and aged for 1–2 years before shaping. Skilled artisans intricately split and refine every strand by hand, a process that requires patience, precision, and generations of expertise.
